Description

The Animal Health Division, under the direction of the state veterinarian, is responsible for controlling, eradicating and testing for livestock disease in Missouri. This is accomplished through testing, vaccinations and regulatory programs involving cattle, swine, horses, poultry, exotic animals, sheep, goats and small animals as provided under the Diseased Animal Law.

The Missouri Dept of Agriculture, Division of Animal Health, is accepting applications for a Summer 2023 internship.  This position will be domiciled in Jefferson City and will require travel (vehicle provided).

Salary:  $15.00/hour (full time during the summer)

Start Date:  Approx May16, 2023 through mid-August 2023 (will work with college schedule)

Responsibilities

What you will be doing:

  • Learn the daily activities of the Animal Health Division within the Department.
  • Work in the Animal Care Facilities Act program (ACFA)
  • Work in the Poultry Health Program
  • Experience the Meat & Poultry Inspection Program (MPIP)
  • Learn about the Animal Health Labs (Jefferson City and Springfield)
  • Ride along with District Veterinarians
  • Work extensively at the Missouri State Fair in August

Qualifications

Requirements:

Must be a current college student pursuing a degree in Animal Sciences, Agriculture, Pre-Vet, Biology, Chemistry or related field.  Must have a 3.0 GPA and be a current Freshman through Junior in college.
