Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources,  Division of Environmental Quality,  and will be located at the Lewis and Clark State Office Building,  1101 Riverside Drive,  Jefferson City,  Missouri 65101.

You will be assisting the Watershed Protection Section,  where science and policy meet to protect Missouri’s waterways.  As an intern,  you’ll have the opportunity to work collaboratively with environmental scientists,  the regulated community,  and the public to make water quality improvements through the development and implementation of environmental regulations.  You’ll work with geospatial software,  water quality data,  and other information to ensure Missouri’s water quality regulations are accurate and complete.  You will also help ensure progress on Missouri’s water quality assessment and restoration of impaired waters.


  • Utilize ArcGIS and other geospatial software to conduct analyses and develop maps for Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL)  water quality improvement plans
  • Support water quality assessment of Missouri streams and lakes through data entry and analysis,  Quality Assurance/Quality Control,  and map development
  • Digitize stream morphology data to support water quality standards revisions


  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry,  Biology,  Physics,  Physical Science,  Geology,  Engineering,  Hydrology,  Forestry,  Ecology,  Environmental Science,  or a closely related field.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word,  Excel,  PowerPoint,  OneNote)
  • Exposure or experience in environmental science,  processes,  and statistics
  • Exposure or experience to Geographic Information Systems such as ArcGIS
