As an intern,  you’ll have real responsibilities,  and you’ll work on productive assignments with actual business interactions.  We know that you work hard,  so we help you play hard while you are here.  We provide a number of intern events throughout the summer to burn some extra energy,  including volunteer events,  power plant tours,  lunch and learns,  and more.

PAY RANGE:  $19.00-  $22.00

Scheduled Work Hours:   Monday -  Friday,  8:00 a.m.  -  5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

Intern Description:

An internship at Evergy is an enlightening experience for students.  As a pure electric utility,  Evergy offers a full range of technical challenges in the areas of power generation,  transmission line,  transmission planning,  distribution and construction.  As a UAS Intern,  you will work directly with the Centralized UAS Group assisting in day to day activities. The UAS Intern will also work closely with technical experts in various disciplines giving insight into the opportunities that exist within our electrical utility environment.

Job tasks include but not limited to:

  • Assist in developing proactive inspection strategies.
  • Assist with inspections of T&D assets with UAS.
  • Assist with photogrammetry data collection for Generation,  T&D and other work areas.
  • Process and generate deliverables for various work groups.
  • Perform routine maintenance on UAS fleet such as firmware upgrades and small mechanical repairs as required.
  • Assist in applying analytics/AI/machine learning tools to large datasets.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

Second,  third or fourth year student actively pursuing a degree in Unmanned Aircraft Systems,  Engineering (Aerospace,  Electrical,  Mechanical,  Civil,  Chemical,  Industrial or Construction Science)  or other applicable area of study.

Skills,  Knowledge,  and Abilities Required:
Must be dependable,  self-motivated,  detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and proofreading skills.   Must possess the ability to work and communicate effectively with other company personnel.   Proficiency in aerial data collection/remote sensing,  photogrammetry,  word processing,  spreadsheets and databases preferred.   Must be able to handle multiple priorities and operate efficiently and effectively in high stress environment.

Licenses,  Certifications,  Bonding,  and/or Testing Required:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess a valid Part 107 Remote Pilot in Command Certificate.

Working Conditions:
Normal office working conditions along with field work and some travel will be required.  Ability to meet strict deadlines and work well under pressure required.  Must have excellent work record including good attendance.
