Internship Description:

Reporting to the Director,  Continuous Improvement,  the Continuous Improvement (CI)  department at Evergy acts as an internal process improvement consulting group and has enterprise responsibility for aiding in the implementation of CI tools and techniques.  This department will enable confident,  fact-based decisions and help to drive efficient and effective processes that deliver value.  When new areas for potential improvement are identified,  the CI department guides Evergy teams through efforts to streamline and optimize the process utilizing project management and Lean Six Sigma (LSS)  techniques.  The successful intern will participate in all aspects of CI delivery including data analysis and visualizations,  improvement facilitation,  and team participation.


  • Participate in and gain exposure to continuous improvement techniques including:
    • Process and Value Stream Mapping,  Standard Work,  5S,  Six Sigma,  Hoshin,  and others
  • Monitors,  participates and reports on Continuous Improvement projects/initiatives
  • Data Analysis and Visualization using Excel,  PowerBI,  and other tools as needed


Education and Experience Requirements:

Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited university program in one of the following or a related technical field:  Industrial Engineering,  Finance,  Data Analytics,  Data Science,  or a combination of Engineering and Business

Skills,  Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Strong conceptual,  as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Strong ability to communicate with all layers of the organization
  • Ability to quickly manage and resolve conflict;  good negotiation and persuasion skills

Working Conditions:

Time will be split between office environments,  power plants and electrical work field locations.   Anticipate greater than 50%  of time in an office environment but project load and location will dictate.
