General Summary:  Assigned to job duties ranging from assistant materials technician to senior materials technician or assistant technician tolaboratory testing technician based on level of education and work experience.

Responsibilities

Examples of Work:

  • Performs materials testing such as aggregate gradation,  moisture,  maximum and bulk specific gravity,  cyclic fatigue,dynamic modules,  hamburg,  Ideal CT,  I-FIT and asphalt density;  reports results to supervisor.
  • Maintains,  records,  and reports test results;  keeps supervisor informed of activities or unusual conditions;  ensuresprojects meet department standards.
  • Enters and records information regarding materials into computer programs.
  • Assists with in-house asphalt and concrete research.
  • Assists with field deployment of GPS systems for Quality Assurance of Intelligent Compaction asphalt rollers.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum/Required Qualifications:  Must be a college undergraduate enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in engineering from an ABET-accreditedcollege or university curriculum who has completed their freshman year (normally 30 semester hours)  in engineeringcoursework;  or must be a college undergraduate enrolled in pre-engineering at a college having a transfer agreement,with an intent to obtain a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.Must maintain at least an overall G.P.A.  of 2.0 out of 4.0 to be accepted into and/or remain in the internship program.  Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.
