General Summary:

Assigned to job duties ranging from an assistant equipment technician to equipment technician,  based on level of education.  Work involves maintenance and repairs to MoDOTs fleet of automobiles,  trucks,  tractors,  loaders,  motorgraders,  and other heavy equipment.

Examples of Work:

•Performs minor repairs to tires,  motors,  hydraulic systems,  brakes,  and glass;  cleans engines or parts.

•Maintains repair and equipment records.

•Provides support and assisting equipment technicians during vehicle and equipment repair.

•Assist with the inspections,  services,  repairs and overhaul of transmissions,  engines,  clutches,  drivelines,  differentials,front and rear axle assemblies,  and ignition systems;  assist with the rear and installation of hydraulic controls;  assistwith tuning motors using standard testing equipment;  assist with dismantles,  repairs and reassembles of air compressors,  hydraulic jacks,  pumps,  cylinders and related equipment.

•Assist with installs of vehicle body components,  lights,  light brackets,  mirrors,  decals and other accessories.

•Reviews equipment maintenance records and observes employees in the operation of equipment to determine andcorrect operator error and ensure proper maintenance.

•Gathers computerized diagnostic information to assess vehicle repair needs.

•Assist equipment technicians to ensure all equipment meets OSHA standards and all repairs and modifications aredone in accordance with operational specifications and safety standards.


Minimum/Required Qualifications:  Must have completed high school and be currently enrolled in an approved Associate’s degree program.Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.
