As an intern,  you’ll have real responsibilities,  and you’ll work on productive assignments with actual business interactions.  We know that you work hard,  so we help you play hard while you are here.  We provide a number of intern events throughout the summer to burn some extra energy,  including volunteer events,  power plant tours,  lunch and learns,  and more.

PAY RANGE:  $17.00-  $20.00

By applying to this requisition,  you will be considered for multiple IT internships in which you are qualified.  Most internships are for Summer 2021,  with some opportunities for part-time work throughout the school year. 

Scheduled Work Hours:  Flexible hours between Monday -  Friday,  8:00 a.m.  -  5:00 p.m.

Location: Internships will vary between the Kansas City,  Missouri and Topeka,  KS areas.  Evergy offers a housing stipend to eligible interns to assist in covering costs of short-term summer housing. 

Responsibilities

Below is a summary list of opportunities we may have available for analytics students:

IT Applications

With direct supervision,  this position assists in developing,  maintaining and documenting the detailed logic of part of a complex application program/business function,  modifying existing routines or modifying purchased application software.

  • Assists in the design and encoding of applications.
  • Assists in the testing and debugging of applications prior to implementation.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of application documentation.
  • Assists in monitoring applications to ensure maximum performance.
  • Assists in maintaining and enhancing applications to address newly discovered problems or new requirements.
  • Assists in backup and recovery procedures and processes.
  • Follows policies and procedures to ensure corporate data security.
  • Adheres to change control requirements and observes compliance standards regarding NERC/CIP.

Information Security Analyst

This position is in Evergy’s Cyber Threat Operations Center.   This team is tasked with monitoring for and responding to cybersecurity threats.   This is a great opportunity for an intern that has an interest in this field and wants to learn what it is like to protect part of the United States critical infrastructure.

  • Monitor and respond to security events using various cybersecurity tools;
  • Review emails submitted by other employees,  that appear suspicious,  in order to determine if they are malicious;
  • Create dashboards in the Security information and event management system that would be useful for the team;
  • Have a great learning experience.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a University in Information Technology,  Computer Science,  Computer Engineering,  Information Systems,  Cyber Security or a related field.

Skills,  Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Familiar with standard concepts,  best practices and procedures related to application development.
  • Communicates effectively with other technical staff.
  • Establishes cooperative relationships with members of the technical team.
  • Establishes cooperative relationships with end-users.
  • Manages time effectively while assuring attention to details.
  • Finishes tasks accurately,  completely and on time.
