Monday –  Friday,  8:00 a.m.  to 5:00 p.m.  (flexible)


Position requires employee to work between 20-25 hours per week,  not to exceed 1,500 hours in a calendar year.  Each semester,  undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.




Under the direction of the Supervisor-AMI Operations,  receives and processes requests for utility service and answers customer’s inquiries for utility account information.  Answers and/or retrieves calls from AMI hotline to answer customer questions or concerns regarding AMI.   Maintains log file of customer communication.   May also respond to customer emails concerning AMI.  Contact customers for scheduling AMI meter exchanges and making special access arrangements as needed.  Utilize CIS to create,  edit or cancel service orders for AMI meter exchanges;  as well as updating CIS for arrangements,  special notes and instructions,  etc.  Assists Metering departments and AMI contract installers,  as needed,  to coordinate AMI meter installs with customers.  Updates spreadsheets,  graphs,  and databases as necessary using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.  Assists with telephones,  mail,  report distribution,  procedures,  facsimile transmissions,  and data gathering activities.  Files records,  correspondence,  and office forms in a systematic procedure and draws material from files,  databases,  or spreadsheets as needed.  Performs other related duties as required or assigned by AMI personnel. 


Duties are primarily performed in an office environment. 



Students who have completed at least one year of college and are enrolled as a full-time student may apply.  Must be enrolled full-time in a degree seeking program.  A student’s co-op position will end within three months after graduation. 



Must be working toward a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major or minor in Business,  Communication,  or related field is required.   Prefer previous experience working with the public. 



Must be proficient with personal computers and data entry usage and procedures.   Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required.   Must possess good verbal and written communication skills,  demonstrate a customer-focused orientation,  and project a positive image of the Utility to the public.


Typically,  sedentary work.   Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and receive detailed information through oral communication,  and to make discriminations in sound is required.   Substantial movements of the wrists,  hands,  and/or fingers,  and close visual acuity to operate a computer is required.   Position requires repetitive keyboarding,  wearing a headset,  sitting for long periods of time,  and ability to lift 30 pounds from ground to 5 feet unassisted.



New hires are informed of the requirements of the Cooperative Education (Co-op)  Program upon hire,  and incumbents must continue to meet the requirements each semester in order to continue employment.   Co-ops who do not meet the requirements may be ineligible for the Co-op Program and their employment may be terminated.  Graduation date beyond nine months of employment date is preferred.   Prefer ability to work minimum 20 hours per week (M-F).  Must be able to work successfully with diverse groups of people.



Must be able to take and pass any applicable tests for the position.
