Description

The Waynesville -  St.  Robert Area Chamber of Commerce,  a non-profit business advocacy organization,  is currently seeking an Intern.   This individual must thrive working in a collaborative fast-pace environment with volunteers and the public.

 

 

 

Responsibilities

Goal 1:  To meet the needs of at-risk youth and military families in the community by developing educational programs for youth and young adults that focuses on how to become leaders,  entrepreneurs,  and stewards of the business world.

Objective 1:  Conduct research of youth leadership and young entrepreneurs programs and develop framework for a youth program.   Examine best practices of youth programs in use at Chamber of Commerce locations throughout the United States.  Analyze additional national programs that focus on building entrepreneurial skills such as Young Entrepreneurs Academy,  Young Professionals Conference,  Lemonade Day,  and Mini Business World.  Utilize the information gathered to develop the framework for a youth program format that aligns the mission and vision of the Waynesville St.  Robert Chamber of Commerce with community needs.

Objective 2:  Develop sustainability through recruitment of youth/young adult participation and mentorship representatives from local business and community agencies.  Develop a plan to recruit youth and young adult participation by outlining benefits of programs and showcasing opportunities unique to youth program.  Work with local schools to develop a referral system for current students seeking job shadowing opportunities.  Actively recruit participation of local agencies and organizations that will assist the program by (1)  Providing youth development opportunities (2)  Acting as a referral agency by promoting the use of youth leadership program (3)  Serve a mentor.

Objective 3:  Develop manuals and training materials to be used by business mentors and youth participants.   Create and maintain a manual covering new business procedures for business mentors and program managers detailing roles,  responsibilities,  and expectations of the program,  participation sites,  and director/supervisor.  Develop requirements for youth leadership program and establish policies and standard operating procedures.  Create orientation protocols for incoming youth ambassadors.

Objective 4:  Create an awareness campaign highlighting the importance of implementing a youth leadership program.   Increase public awareness of all Chamber of Commerce programs by seeking out multiple delivery methods including:  (1)  Creating a marketing campaign that includes handouts such as flyers,  brochures,  stickers,  posters,  magnets etc.  (2)  Developing a brand message by creating a logo/slogan that is easily recognizable for individuals needing assistance (3)  Contacting local media outlets to disburse information on availability,  procedures,  and benefits of use.
