Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, Water Protection Program, and will be located at the Lewis and Clark State Office Building, 1101 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City, Missouri 65101. This position does not have a remote work option, and the candidate must be able to work in Jefferson City, Missouri, Monday through Friday. The Department does not provide housing or relocation expenses.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do:

This position will primarily focus on data quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) as part of an United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Compliance Initiative for Significant Non-Compliance (SNC) reporting.

  • Contact and assist permittees with renewal of expired Missouri State Operating Permits
  • Assist in collecting updated permittee contact information for use in the Automated Notification System (Autodialer)
  • Determine the status of missing Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMR) for General Cover Program Facilities (GCPF), including historically missing or inaccurately reported reports.
  • Enter missing DMR and Narrative Conditions in the Department’s database to improve data quality and transfer
  • Identify and enter EPA database code for electronic submission, to prevent accrual of violations
  • Generate list of permits with missing DMRs, narrative conditions that have occurred within the past two years to use for resolving prior violations in EPA’s database
  • Assist with data management needed to improve data quality and transfer between databases

Qualifications

Professional Experience to be Gained:

  • Understanding of how regulatory agencies function
  • Develop an understanding of complex database applications administered by the Water Protection Program and EPA
  • Learn about current environmental issues, different sources of water pollution and how pollution affects bodies of water, human health, and the environment
  • Gain an understanding of the various types of NPDES Permits issued by the Department and the regulatory requirements of each
  • Gain valuable experience with data management, and quality control with data entry

All you need for success:

  • Data management experience
  • Master of Microsoft Excel, including ability to develop visuals to display results of analyses
  • Familiar with Environmental Laws, especially the federal Clean Water Act
  • Project management skills
  • Understanding of SMART goals and performance metrics
