Job Location: This intern position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, General Counsel’s Office, located in person, at 1101 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City, MO.

You will be assisting the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ General Counsel’s Office throughout the summer.  The chosen intern will have an exceptional opportunity to gain exposure to the various functions legal counsel performs for the agency.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do:

  • Work closely with experienced environmental attorneys and colleagues;
  • Gain exposure to a wide variety of environmental and natural resource law issues from the unique perspectives of the in-house agency counsel;
  • Assist in administrative proceedings and litigation from a client perspective, and prepare to enforce environmental laws and regulations at the pre-litigation phase;
  • Tailor your internship your interests—this could include work in many different areas of law, including: administrative, environmental, property, contract, tort, open records, and employment matters; and
  • Engage in legal research and writing, policy and administrative rule development, site visits, and cases that affect human health and the environment.
  • Obtain law school credit

Qualifications

Professional Experience to be Gained:

  • Increased opportunities to improve your legal research and writing.
  • An opportunity to observe the practice of law from a governmental, in-house counsel perspective.
  • The ability to work on cases that affect human health and the environment from an advisory/client perspective.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • This position is open to all current first - and -second-year law students.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of how to research and interpret legal cases, laws, and statutes in order to complete legal memorandums and other legal drafting to respond to legal questions posed by department team members.
  • A demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in environmental and/or natural resource law.
