Hourly Rate: $17.77

Duration of Assignment: May 2024 – August 2024

Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, Water Protection Program, and will be located at the Lewis and Clark State Office Building, 1101 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City, Missouri 65101. This position does not have a remote work option, and the candidate must be able to work in Jefferson City, Missouri, Monday through Friday. The Department does not provide housing or relocation expenses.

You will be assisting the Water Protection Program to review and evaluate wastewater projects to ensure compliance with state regulations. You will learn about wastewater technologies, industry trends and advancements, and the many ways we work to protect and improve water quality in Missouri and beyond.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do:

  • Compile and evaluate data about wastewater pollutant load reductions as a result of the antidegradation process.
  • Evaluate and compare different wastewater technology’s ammonia and nutrient removal performance.
  • Compile and evaluate cost information for wastewater construction projects.
  • Research new and innovative wastewater technologies for nutrient removal.
  • Compile design criteria of existing facilities that utilize innovative technologies and evaluate their performance.
  • Provide research and support for rulemaking processes.

Qualifications

Professional Experience to be Gained:

  • Understand the mission and values of the Department of Natural Resources.
  • Experience a broad range of wastewater treatment technologies.
  • Gain knowledge of wastewater treatment design standards.
  • Learn how wastewater effluent limits are calculated and established through the antidegradation and NPDES permitting process.
  • Gain knowledge about how government agency’s function.

All you need for success:

  • Engineering Major
  • Excel
  • Have completed at least some introductory engineering classes
