Duration of Assignment: May 1, 2024 to August 31, 2024

Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, Environmental Services Program, and will be located at 2710 West Main Street, Jefferson City, MO.

You will be assisting the Environmental Services Program with helping to protect the health and safety of Missouri citizens and the State’s natural resources. As part of the Environmental Services Program, you will be assisting the Chemical Analysis Section to help ensure the public has safe drinking water, clean streams and fresh air.

Professional Experience to be Gained:

  • Learn the basic operation of an environmental chemistry laboratory
  • Learn analytical methods
  • Learn how to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Learn basic chemistry knowledge and techniques
  • Develop and use skills both as an individual and while working as a team

Responsibilities

What you’ll do:

  • Perform sample preparation for analysis
  • Performing analytical testing
  • Reporting results into a database
  • Instrument calibration and maintenance
  • Data review for quality control purposes

Qualifications

All you need for success:

  • Be pursuing a degree (or completed) in the field of chemistry, environmental science or one of the similar sciences.
  • Must be able to stand on their feet for several hours at a time, perceive color, lift coolers and boxes that may weigh up to 35 pounds
  • Operate a computer and analytical instrument software
  • Understand safety protocol for laboratory spaces
