Description

DUTIES:

  • Shadow and engage in a variety of resource management and private land initiatives including forestry, fisheries, prairie, wildlife management, infrastructure, and business services.
  • Assist with and participate in large scale outreach events such as Discover Nature Field Days and MDC public and internal workshops.
  • Work with a team of diverse staff to draft ideas on how to expand recreation opportunities on conservation land.
  • Support Inclusion and Diversity efforts throughout the Northeast Region by joining ideas with the team and elevating the staff and customer experience.
  • Collaborate with community conservation team staff to influence efforts and develop framework improvements. 
  • Have scheduled weekly check-ins and a strong working relationship with assigned mentor in order to facilitate questions and conversations around a future position within MDC.
  • Consistently exhibit MDC Values and Behaviors and reflect on performance. Discuss with mentor as needed.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

At the undergraduate level the emphasis is on recruitment, career exploration, and introducing top performing students to MDC.  

Students are eligible for the program when they meet the following criteria: 

  • Undergraduate student at an accredited university/college in good standing. Students who will be graduating before the internship begins are not eligible.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher on 4.0 scale is desirable.
  • Preference will be given to students who have completed at least 48 credit hours.
  • Pursuing a degree in outdoor recreation, natural resources, public engagement, environmental policy, or a related field.  

SPECIAL ABLILTY REQUIREMENTS:

You may include additional special ability requirements if needed.

Ability to:

Develop and sustain cooperative working relationships.

Work outside in adverse weather conditions and perform tasks requiring strenuous physical activity.

Remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time including computer work.

Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.

Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.

Obtain a current, valid driver license by the date of employment.

Work Saturdays, Sundays and holidays when needed.

Keep an accurate record of supplies, services, and time reports.
