Description

The mission of the Land Survey Program is to develop and provide information required for the accurate and economical location of property boundaries in Missouri. The program is responsible for Cadastral and Geodetic Surveys as well as making survey documents available to surveyors and the public. 

The Missouri Dept of Agriculture, Land Survey Program, is accepting applications for Summer 2024 internship.  This position will be domiciled in Rolla, MO and will require travel (vehicle provided).

Salary:  $15.00/hour (full time during the summer)

Start Date:  Approx mid-May through mid-August 2024 (will work with school schedule)

Responsibilities

What you will be doing:

  • Entry Level Survey Work
  • Assist project surveyor in conducting geodetic surveys, geodetic mark maintenance and land corner investigation and restorations by operating all survey equipment necessary for the completion of the project.
  • Assist with research for in-house survey projects, download and process field data, and perform basic survey calculations utilizing Carlson Surveying Software.
  • Complete preliminary Certified Land Corner Documents and preliminary survey plats utilizing Carlson Surveying Software.
  • Research and organize survey documents from the Land Survey Repository and assist the repository staff in making copies of and filing microfilm records.
  • Clean, maintain and make basic adjustments to tribrachs, prism poles and other miscellaneous survey equipment.
  • Schedule vehicle maintenance, order survey supplies and provide general support.

Ability to carry survey equipment instructions (50-80 lbs) for long distances over rough and hilly terrain.  Work outdoors in heat and cold with exposure to poisonous plants, insects and other natural irritants.  Work is Monday through Friday, throughout the state, some overnight travel one to two nights per week.  MDA reimburses expenses and provides a company vehicle for travel. 

Qualifications

Requirements:

Must be a current high school or college student pursuing a degree in a GIS or Civil Engineering related field.  Preferable GPA of 3.0 or higher.
