Coastal Energy is seeking applicants for an intern at our chemical laboratory in Miller, Missouri, for the summer of 2022. The paid position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.  The intern will work under the direction of our lead chemist to learn principles of asphalt testing and development, as well as to gain knowledge of an industrial environment pertaining to the asphalt/emulsion industry. 

Responsibilities

As part of our emulsion laboratory team, the position may include:

  • Setting up, testing, adjusting, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory equipment.
  • Collecting and preparing samples, and ensuring safe disposal of waste.
  • Recording, analyzing, and writing reports, reviews, and summaries on the findings of experiments and trials.
  • Performing routine laboratory functions to support scientific experiments and investigations.
  • Enforcing strict health and safety regulations.
  • Lab technicians work in a variety of settings, including the laboratory and in the asphalt plant.

Qualifications

Education

  • Must be currently enrolled in school and have completed 45 college credit hours.
  • Preferred educational area of focus is on fields of science such as chemistry, biology, or physical science. Will consider applicants with an educational focus on mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering, engineering technology, or industrial technology, with an emphasis in manufacturing or other related field.

Skills

  • Superior organizational and communication skills are required, along with outstanding attention to detail.
  • Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook Express, or other word processing, spreadsheet, and email programs.
  • Strong time-management skills, ability to work independently, and interpersonal skills a plus.

  • Must be on time with regular work attendance.
  • Applicants must pass pre-employment drug screening.
