Description

The Missouri Grain Inspection and Warehousing Division is all about protecting Missouri farmers and the state’s $6 billion grain industry. The division consists of three major programs to accomplish this goal. They are the Grain Regulatory Services Program (GRS),  The Grain Inspection Services Program (GIS)  and the Commodity Services Program (CSP).

The Grain Regulatory Services Program is a regulatory program that provides oversite on commercial grain handling facilities operating within the state of Missouri. This is done by a licensing function that works to ensure that the grain companies interacting with Missouri farmers are financially sound and have sound business practices. GRS has an audit team for verification of the information.

The primary function of the Grain Inspection Services Program is to facilitate the marketing and sale of grain by providing accurate and consistent inspection and weighing information that describes the quantity and quality of grain being bought and sold.  Last year,  GIS provided inspections/grades for 353 million bushels of grain moved by a combination of rail and barge from the state.

The Commodity Services Program acts as an unbiased third party in the collection of various commodity check off funds. These funds are then distributed back to the various commodity merchandising councils. Last year,  $30 million was collected and distributed back to the merchandising councils. This program also assists in the election of board members to the various commodity merchandising councils.
